The work plays with the concept of ‚loose society‘, which was repeatedly taken up as a theme in the early Romantic paintings of Jan van Hemessen. The depictions show young men and women at boisterous hustle and bustle in inns or a brothel. The scribbles affixed to the walls and the birdcage hung on the door unmistakably indicate that this is a public house. The paintings tell of exuberant alcohol consumption and reveal moral permissiveness.
The screenshots, loosely arranged as a mobile, show exuberant everyday situations of the residents of the Donauinsel in Vienna in the 1990s documented on film by the ORF, in which nudist culture, alcohol consumption and socializing are lived out in public space.
Lockere Gesellschaft
Die Arbeit spielt mit dem Begriff der ‚lockeren Gesellschaft‘, welcher in den Früh-Romantikgemälden von Jan van Hemessen immer wieder thematisch aufgenommen wurde. Die Darstellungen zeigen junge Männer und Frauen beim ausgelassenen Treiben in Wirtshäusern oder einem Bordell. Die an den Wänden angebrachten Kritzeleien und der an der Tür aufgehängte Vogelkäfig zeigen unmissverständlich an, dass es sich um ein öffentliches Haus handelt. In den Malereien wird von überschwänglichem Alkoholkonsum erzählt und zeigt moralische Freizügigkeiten auf.
Die als Mobile lose angeordneten Screenshots zeigen ausgelassene Alltagssituationen der Bewohnerschaft der Donauinsel in Wien in den 1990er Jahren vom ORF filmisch dokumentiert, in denen FKK-Kultur, Alkoholkonsum und Geselligkeit im öffentlichen Raum ausgelebt werden.
