At Food&Footage, filmmakers and chefs come together every week to combine moving images with a three-course meal and thus react to current social, political and cultural discourses.
Moving images in the broadest sense – including documentaries, video art, experimental short films and performative forms – function not only as an aesthetic or narrative tool, but also as a discursive platform.
At the same time, and understood as an equally important narrative element, the language of food preparation opens up additional semantic and performative levels of reception. Regardless of whether we refer to the film thematically, subtly or concretely – it is only in combination that a curated experiment emerges.
In the gestures of how food is prepared and served, but also in the choice of crockery or the time chosen to eat together, an evening is formed beyond the edge of the plate.
The director becomes the chef, or the chef becomes the protagonist of the evening. The program is inspired by a fast food snack, invasive delicacies or Caravaggio’s Last Supper at Emmaus.
